STURGIS — All of our bands have had a busy and successful first half of the school year. It was filled with music, growth, and a whole lot of fun. Students worked hard in rehearsals, learning new skills, improving their musicianship, and building teamwork along the way.
Our program had five students attend the provincial honour band in Regina in late October/early November. It was a huge accomplishment for those students, who proudly represented our schools and towns with other students from across the province.
Our senior band ended December with a festive Christmas tour, which showcased both their progress and enthusiasm. We toured for three days, which resulted in seven concerts total. We performed in Canora, Invermay, Kamsack, Norquay, Preeceville, and Sturgis.
Beyond performances, band members demonstrated commitment and leadership by supporting one another and representing their school with pride. As the semester comes to a close, the band looks ahead to the new year, which will include band trips to Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, and Toronto. We have also commissioned a Winnipeg-based composer to write a special piece for our senior band to play at our final concert on June 3.
