KAMSACK — (Editor’s note: The following article contains highlights of events which were carried by The Kamsack Times during the course of 2025 and is a source of nostalgia for the past year. Dates listed refer to publication dates and not to the dates of the events.)
JANUARY
Jan. 9 – Open for nearly six months, the Shamay Café had developed a fine reputation in Kamsack for being an excellent restaurant with enjoyable food and atmosphere…Fire destroyed the Pelly Grocery Market, the only grocery store in the Village of Pelly…A Christmas concert and sing-along was staged by Kamsack Community Choir…Norma Walsh, on behalf of her husband Larry, and daughter Tammy, accepted congratulations from Kamsack Mayor Beth Dix for having won the Kamsack Christmas Lights contest.
Jan. 16 – Photographed was the new RM of Cote council which held its second regular meeting since the election in November…Cathay Wagantall, the MP for Yorkton-Melville, took a look back at 2024…Placing second in the Canora Seniors Bonspiel was the Ted Kreklewetz rink of Norquay
Jan. 23 – It was announced that Kam-Crete Ltd. was to close its operation in Kamsack…New equipment purchased in 2023 was used by the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department to practice ice rescue operations…A concert was staged at the Kamsack Playhouse by Munro and Patrick, the winners of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association Group of the Year for 2024.
Jan. 31 – The U13 Parkland Predators provincial team was set to begin the first round provincial series at Kamsack versus the Wynyard Monarchs. On the team were Bryden Leis, Flynn Ruf and Brodie Hunter of Kamsack…The U13 Kamsack Flyers won big during a Hockey Day game in Canora…The Norquay and Sturgis senior boys basketball team and the Preeceville School co-hosted the East Central Clash Senior Boys Basketball tournament and the undefeated Norquay and Sturgis team battled Preeceville in the final for the championship.
FEBRUARY
Feb. 7 – Nytro Ag Corp., the licensed distributor of the Green Lightning equipment operated by Kamsack’s Nykolaishen family, was applauded for innovative nitrogen fixing equipment at the 2025 Crop Production Show in Saskatoon…Representatives of the Assiniboine Valley Health Centre in Kamsack, which was one of the last remaining private clinics in rural Saskatchewan, said they were very pleased with a 15-year agreement signed with the Saskatchewan Health Authority…The Chief Gabriel Cote Education Complex girls volleyball team was preparing to compete in the Las Vegas Classic competition…Winning the A-side of the Norquay Ladies Bonspiel was a team comprised of Shirley Peesker of Kamsack (lead), Lynnette Severson of Pelly (skip and throwing second rocks), Linda Kreklewetz of Norquay (third) and Kim Kindiak of Kamsack (throwing fourth rocks).
Feb. 14 – After Duck Mountain conservation officers seized an unlawfully harvested moose and salvaged an elk that had been shot and left behind, Lorne’s Butcher Block in Kamsack processed the meat which was donated to food banks…Joseph Chorneyko of Norquay was selected to perform in the University of Regina Honour Band…The Legacy Co-op Food Store in Kamsack won a Kraft Heinz contest which allowed it to donate $2,000 worth of food to the SIGN Family Resource Centre in Kamsack.
Feb. 21 – Two Kamsack siblings, Amber Talbot and Curtis Roll, and their partners held a “soft” opening of two businesses that share space on main street…Longtime Norquay residents, Louis and Vivian Anfinson of the Preeceville Personal Care Home, who were married in 1951, were profiled for a Valentine’s Day feature…The Kamsack fire brigade was called to extinguish two fires during the first half of February.
Feb. 28 – Three weeks of frigid temperatures finally broke to a terrific two degrees Celsius for the 44th annual Duck Mountain Cross-Country Ski Loppet…The Leonard Bazarski rink, with Lionel Dutchak, Brendon Halchyshak, Leonard Bazarski and Kris Currie, topped the Arran Annual Open Bonspiel… More than 150 sleds were registered for the Togo Snowmobile and Iron Dog Derby.
MARCH
Mar. 7 – During a parade of the Kamsack air cadets, Lt. Karen Tourangeau and CI Karen Bodnaryk of Kamsack were presented with Canadian Forces medals by Capt. Troy Rogowski of Preecveville…The late Orest Sych of Kamsack, a lifelong supporter of TeleMiracle, left $12,000 in his will to TeleMiracle as a tribute to his nieces and nephews…Doing their part to “let kindness grow” on Pink Shirt Day, Victoria School students in Kamsack visited several places in the community in order to show kindness and thankfulness to community helpers…Kamsack’s Eaglestone Lodge received $1,000 worth of products in Tupperware’s Pay It Forward program.
Mar. 14 – Built Prefab, a company formed by former Kamsack resident James Rosowsky and is known as “a leader in modern modular housing,” announced the acquisition of Lake Country Modular, “a respected provider of attainable, high-quality manufactured, modular, multi-family and First Nations housing”…Togo figure skaters acknowledged old days and old ways at the Togo Skating Club’s annual carnival entitled Country Roads…The first World Day of Prayer celebrated in Kamsack since 2020 was held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church where the focus was placed on a service prepared by the women of the Cook Islands…The U15 Parkland Prairie Ice girls hockey team which included players from Norquay, Kamsack and Cote First Nation, finished second in the Southeast Division of the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League during the regular season.
Mar. 21 – Perogy preppers were all smiles during a mass production of perogies to be sold, benefiting the Veregin New Horizons Community Hall and Senior Centre…Roadside Hydraulics, a new hydraulics business that opened south of Kamsack, was using expertise and stock from the former Prairie Manure and Feed operation. It is being operated by Keith |Strutynski…Three new members were welcomed to the Eaglestone Lodge board of directors…The U15 Highway 9 Predators, with players from Norquay and Kamsack, qualified for the A banner final series.
Mar. 28 – Former Kamsack resident Isaac Thomas designed new jerseys for the Saskatchewan Rush team…The Kamsack Minor Hockey Association honoured the season with a presentation of hardware at the Kamsack Playhouse…The boys and girls Norquay Knights Senior basketball teams qualified to attend Hoopla in Saskatoon.
APRIL
April 4 – Topping the Kamsack Curling Club’s Wind-Up Bonspiel was the Jordan ven der Buhs rink with Jordan as skip; Glen Becenko, third; Kaytlyn ven der Buhs, second, and Wendy Becenko, lead…The Friends of Pelly, a group of volunteers who had begun fundraising for a playground in Pelly, indicated the group’s efforts were paying off, yet $38,000 was still needed to start the first phase of their project…An article submitted by the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust told the story of the HMCS Kamsack, a flower-class corvette that had served primarily in the Battle of the Atlantic as an ocean escort.
April 11 – It was announced that the Kamsack Family Resource Centre, operated by the Society for the Involvement of Good Neighbours (SIGN) will be moving to a larger space…The Kamsack Mud Slingers agreed to move its annual mud derby from its traditional Canada Day date to align with the Town of Kamsck’s fair which was to be held on June 21…Candidates for the Yorkton-Melville constituency for the next federal election included: Luke Guimond for the Liberals; Alec Guggenmos for the Libertarian Party; Michaela Krakowetz for the New Democratic Party; incumbent Cathay Wagantall for the Conservatives, and Valerie Brooks for the Green Party.
April 18 – Kamsack district wildlife enthusiasts were honoured at the annual Kamsack branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation awards banquet…Michael Thom of Theodore, who had worked as Kamsack’s bylaw enforcement officer for about three years beginning in 2019, was rehired for that position…Kamsack Mayor Beth Dix was photographed with the new children’s car seats that the Town received from funds provided by SG|I. The seats were to be distributed by staff of the Family Resource Centre…Participating in its Good Buy to Hunger campaign, the Legacy Co-op food store at Kamsack donated $1,188 to the Society for the Involvement of Good Neighbours (SIGN).
April 25 – Kamsack veterinarian Dr. Ellen Amundsen-Case, pleased that the Cote First Nation was sponsoring a program to allow for the spaying and neutering of cats and dogs, was encouraging persons to sign up for the free program available at her clinic…The final week of the federal election campaign kicked off with advance polls opening around the county and in Saskatchewan.
MAY
May 2 – The Sadok Ukrainian Dancers at Kamsack eagerly showed off the year’s accomplishments at a year-end concert held at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute…Cathay Wagantall was re-elected for a fourth term representing the Yorkton-Melville constituency following the federal election on April 28…It was announced that the Norquay School was to hold the Relay for Life, honouring cancer fighters past and present, on May 30…Members of the Heart and Home Quilting Club in Kamsack presented to the Kamsack Nursing home a collection of 20 quilts that the members had made.
May 9 – It was announced that at the Kamsack air cadet squadron’s annual ceremonial review, special recognition would be made of the fact that 2025 marks the 50th year that females had been permitted to participate in the national cadet program…A GoFundMe page was created for the Togo Silver Thread Community Centre, citing that the venue was in danger of closing…Several articles dealing with home ownership, renovations, improvements and trends were printed in a special Home Improvement segment of the newspaper.
May 16 – Jared and Nicky Ruf, the owners of In Good Taste, the Togo-based food processing and catering business, was preparing to open The Sweet Spot at Madge Lake…Emerging snakes at the Fort Livingstone National Historic Site north of Pelly amused visitors who took time out of Mother’s Day for a visit to the first capital of the Northwest Territories…Members of the Norquay branch of the Royal Canadian Legion marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe) celebrating years of peace and remembrance, with an event held May 8…It was announced that a branch advisor for the Cadet Instructors Cadre, LCol. T.M. Marchinko, CD, of Portage la Prairie, Man., who is a former member of the Kamsack air cadet squadron, would be the reviewing officer and guest speaker at the cadets’ annual ceremonial review.
May 23 – Kerrie Norton of Cote First Nation, who had established the Mountain Eagle Woman Food Sovereignty Initiative, added chickens and chicken coops to her interest in gardening in order to help restore Indigenous food systems for First Nations people…Kamsack council approved a budget of $5 million while raising the municipal mill rate from 9.5 to 10.5 mills…The Kamsack Family Resource Centre moved to a new, larger location…It was announced that the Victoria School in Kamsack was one of 10 schools in the province to receive a $15,000 grant to support student nutrition, selected through the Mosaic School Nutrition Challenge…Volunteers begin their weekly sessions tending to the Trackside Garden in Kamsack.
May 30 – A setup of computer and large screen at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute allowed students to simulate golfing. It was believed that the school was the only Saskatchewan high school have it own golf simulation equipment…It was announced that within a week skateboarders at Kamsack would be sharing space at the cement-padded Skateboard Park with pickleball players…Photographs of the 26 senior students of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute that were to graduate were carried in the newspaper which featured all the graduates of area schools.
JUNE
June 6 – Wearing red T-shirts, about 75 students of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute performed an awareness activity on the street in front of the school. Led by the schools SADD (Students Against Drinking and Driving) group, the students laid on the pavement to spell out the words: DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!”…Kamsack air cadets were honoured by several speakers during a banquet that was served following the squadron’s annual ceremonial review. Among speakers were: Sean Wilson, the Canora-Pelly MLA; Judy Green, on behalf of the Kamsack branch of the Royal Canadian Legion; Dustin Erhardt, chair of the cadets’ civilian committee; CI Karen Bodnaryk, the training and supply officer for the squadron; Kamsack Mayor Beth Dix; Lt Karen Tourangeau, the cadets’ commanding officer, and Richard Petrowsky of Regina, the Saskatchewan executive director of the Air Cadet League of Canada…Seventeen Victoria School students at Kamsack went to Eaglestone Lodge to help a group of seniors plant the Lodge’s four raised garden beds.
June 13 – Poor air quality due to the smoke from forest fires across the Prairies force the annual Kamsack Decoration Day service from the Legion cenotaph at Riverview Cemetery into the Legion Hall…The Heart and Home Quilting Club at Kamsack made an official presentation of a library shelf-themed wall hanging to the Kamsack Public Library…Enthusiastic new staff members were working at the National Doukhobor Heritage Village in Veregin…The Relay for Life event organized by students of the Norquay School raised more than $17,000 for the fight against cancer…About 170 students from Norquay, Preeceville, Sturgis, Canora, Invermay and a Norquay district Hutterite colony gathered at Lindgren Farms near Norquay for a Food Farm event.
June 20 – Facilitated by the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute’s SADD (Students Against Drinking and Driving), SGI’s rollover simulator was at the school demonstrating what happens in a rollover vehicle accident when occupants wear and don’t wear seatbelts…A project in support of their late teammate earned the Norquay Knights girls basketball team provincial recognition when the Public Schools of Saskatchewan announced its fifth annual Student Citizenship Award winners. The Norquay School had created a way to give back to the community and honour a former classmate: Cheyenne Peterson, who had been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. The event was named Buckets of Hope in hopes of raising awarenenss and remembering their fellow student, who died May 12…Former Kamsack resident LCol Tami Marchinko of Portage la Prairie, Man., was presented with the King’s Coronation Medal.
June 27 – Summer Johnson, the valedictorian for the Norquay School’s 2025 graduation, said it had been a privilege to represent the graduation class…During the service at Westminster Memorial United Church in Kamsack, special recognition was made of the 100th anniversary of the United Church of Canada…A donation of $2,500 on behalf of Fedoruk Seeds of Kamsack pushed the total amount raised for the Victoria School’s kitchen renovation project to just $9,000 shy of the target…Travelling carnival rides and amusements highlighted Kamsack’s Spring into Summer fair…Awareness of drug and alcohol abuse was the theme of a walk held at Cote First Nation.
JULY
July 4 – Jacob Burback was the valedictorian for Kamsack Comprehensive Institute’s class of 2025…KCI graduates were: Brody Bloudoff, Nelson Wapash, Priam Shingoose, Jacob Burback, Tyrone Keshane, Bobby Taylor, Chaise Sterzer, Andy Chan, Arvin Pasaporte, Gabrielle Schneider, Talan Markel, Lauren Talbot, Seraphim Strauss, Haven Krawetz, Kaesee Keshane, Brooke Taylor, Serenity Cote, Treanna Woodworth, Kadence Hotomani, Shilo Blackwood-Eliuk, Sahara Badger, Kira Salahub, Jenaya Stevenson and Dwayne Shingoose…Both, the Fort Pelly Livingstone Museum and the National Doukhobor Heritage Village at Veregin were set to welcome an increase number of visitors thanks to the Canada Strong Pass that offered free admission to national parks, national historic sites and marine conservation areas maintained by Parks Canada.
July 11- A thousand pounds of lamb was prepared and served at the 78th annual Veregin shishliki barbecue…Among Norquay students to receive awards at the Good Spirit School Division’s concert held at Sturgis were: Brody Nelson, Catherine Chorneyko, Hutch Nelson, Olivia Ivanochko, Joseph Chroneyko, Dvid Halterman and Lucy Chorneyko…On Canada Day, the community of Veregin held a fireworks display…The Town of Kamsack included a two-page news release in it water bills which provided citizens with information on dealing with cats and dogs.
July 18 – Rylan Friday of Vancouver, B.C., who is a member of the Cote First Nation, mingled with giants of the film industry at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France…Prairie Soil Services Ltd., announced that ProSoils Inc., headquartered in Rose Valley, acquired all the shares of Prairie Soil Services Ltd. of Norquay.
July 25 – Eleven Kamsack firefighters spent time being trained how to rescue someone who is trapped in a load of grain. Kevin Boughton of Stonewall, Man., was the instructor of the course held by the Canadian Agriculture Safety Association…Sek Glass, a glass installation company in Kamsack that is owned by Kenworth and Sehlile Peters, was ready to expand after only 15 months after opening…It was announced that former Kamsack resident Elizabeth Bishop , who was celebrating her eighth year as a perform with the SaskExpress summer tour would be among the entertainers when the group performs at the Kamsack Playhouse in August.
AUGUST
Aug. 15 – Over five days at the end of July, a group of more than 50 persons assembled at Cote First Nation to receive instruction on how to fight wildfires…It was announced that the Town of Kamsack would be starting a large project within Riverview Cemetery which incudes the construction of a bank of columbaria in a park-like environment with seating areas and a new memorial wall…Davd Zacharias of Melville and Jared Clark of Pierson developed a partnership known as Park West Concrete Co. to assume ownership of the Kamsack property and business known as Kam-Crete…A special welcome to the Powerhouse Museum was extended to the community and visitors alike by the board of the Kamsack and District Historical Society…The Friends of Pelly had raised about $55,000 for new playground equipment, but were needing $20,000 more to complete the project…Wildfire smoke that filled the skies, rain that didn’t fall and a couple regular exhibitors who had retired from intensive gardening contributed to the fewer-than-normal entries at the Kamsack and District Horticulture Society’s annual show.
Aug 22 – Because Elizabeth Bishop, a key performer in Lost in as Musical is a former Kamsack resident, the Kamsack Playhouse audience had an extra reason to applaud the performance of SaskExpress…Crowstand Centre at Kamsack, a former hospital which was converted into a building of offices and meeting rooms, was closed in 2023. During it meeting, town council agreed to sell the structure, to Tyson Beyko of the RM of Sliding hills for a dollar. The building is to be renovated to accommodate offices and meeting rooms again…The 82 cyclists who pedaled from Tobin Lake to Oungre over seven days in July in the 21st annual Saskatchewan Pedal Tour included Kamsack and former Kamsack residents under the slogan “From Boreal Forest to the Border.”
Aug. 29 – Recalling that “40 years ago Mayor Arnold Becker had cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the Kamsack Power House Museum,” Kamsack Mayor Beth Dix welcomed everyone to the facility’s anniversary…It was announced that Ryan Keown, who had been in the insurance business for more than 20 years and who began a real estate and insurance branch of his Roblin-based company in Kamsack nearly four years ago, was expanding his Kamsack building to accommodate additional office space…The parking lot of the Legacy Co-op food store was filled to near capacity when the Co-op served its member appreciation barbecue…Team Sask announced that Brendan Cote-Williamson of Cote First Nation was one of two athletes that would lead Saskatchewan into the closing ceremonies of the 2025 Canada Summer Games
SEPTEMBER
Sept. 5 – Glacier Media sold the Kamsack Times, Canora Courier and Preeceville Progress newspapers to Devan Tasa, resulting in the local papers being returned into local hands…The KCI welcomed five new staff members, while Victoria School had six teachers join its staff for the 2025-26 term…The Kamsack and District Nursing Home’s upgraded courtyard was inaugurated during the auxiliary’ 50th anniversary…The KCI students were about to prepare to raise another tankful of trout with the assistance of Walter Lesiuk, the fisheries chair for the Kamsack branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.
Sept. 12 – Legacy Co-op announced an almost $2 million upgrade to its Kamsack C-Store which was to be completed by the spring of 2026…Patricia Hack of Madge Lake and Foam Lake, who had published her first solo book, What Old Broads Know, was to discuss her work at the Kamsck Senior Citizens’ Centre…The Victoria School received another big boost in its kitchen renovation project when the Affinity Credit Union presented the school with a $5,000 grant.
Sept. 19 – Meeting for the first time in the 2025-26 season, members of the Heart and Home Quilting Club showed one another the results of the challenge that had been issued prior to their summer hiatus, which asked members to “make something with jeans.”…Keeseekoose First Nation’s horse races entertained guests to the Melville and District Agri-Park where 12 different entries were featured.
Sept. 26 – Troy MacNaughton, a Canora-based recording artist and performer, entertained residents at Eaglestone Lodge.,..It was a picnic in the sun at the Legacy Co-op service station where Co-op staff and represtatives of Creative Kids Saskatchewan served barbecued hot dogs during the Co-op’ annual Fuel Good Day…Three Norquay students, Jake Holodniuk, Ethan Dickoff and Lloyd Nokinsky placed in the top five in their races at the Deer Park Cross Country Meet in Yorkton.
OCTOBER
Oct. 3 – A 10th anniversary and grand re-opening was held at the Kamsack Family Resource Centre…Lindgren Farms of Norquay announced its winners of the Growing Forward scholarship…Cindy Koreluik of Kamsack, president of the Yorkton Genealogical Society, made presentations of cheques for the CN Station House Museum in Canora when members of the Society visited the museum to hear about Fort Alexandra of the North West Company and Fort Hibernia of the Hudson Bay Company, which were located near the Upper Assiniboine River north of Canora during the late 1790s and early 1800s.
Oct. 10 – A barbecue was held at Kamsack to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation…Cote First Nation opened the Shamay Automotive Service in Kamsack, which is located in the former Kamsack School Division bus garage…Everyone was invited to the James Rudd Memorial Fire Hall in Kamsack to enjoy a free pancake breakfast while helping to celebrate 70 years that the Kamsack fire department had been supporting Muscular Dystrophy Canada…Among Norquay students to place well at the Saltcoats Cross-Country Meet were Ethan Dickoff, Lloyd Nokinsky and Dominick O’Soup.
Oct. 17 – The advanced age of the workers was cited as the main reason why the St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Hall in Kamsack was being offered for sale. “Some of the workers are in their 90s, many are in their 80s and the younger ones are in their 70s,” said Larry Perpeluk, chair of the parish committee.
Oct. 24 – Kamsack and district residents were invited to begin Thanksgiving Day with a hearty breakfast prepared and served by members of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department…About 500 items, including quilts of may sizes and designs, bags, small comforters for premature babies, coasters and pot holders were on display at the Heart and Home Quilting Club’s Sew Seasonal show and sale…A “gargantuan project” at the Village of Togo to have the roofs of the community’s skating and curling rinks re-shingled, which will have cost a total of $200,000 was completed in September.
Oct 31 – Chairs and tables set out for the open house and barbecue were filled when guests were welcomed to the “long overdue” new 6,000 square-foot Cote RM municipal shop in Kamsack…Because of significant community contributions, Reagan Foster of Norquay was presented with a Community Leadership Award by the Insurance Brokers of Saskatchewan (IBAS)…Arbutus Holiday, an acoustic duo from Texada Island, B.C., was at Eaglestone Lodge playing a mix of folk, indie and rock music…It was announced that the Fuel Good Day at the Legacy Co-op in Kamsack had raised nearly $2,000 for Creative Kids Canada.
NOVEMBER
Nov. 7 – Kamsack curlers were preparing for a new season and announced a project to raise funds for upgrading the ice surface at the Broda Sportsplex…Bob Abbott of Norquay who was a huge part of the community after his retirement, had enlisted in the army at a young age and his service during the Second World War was a featured story for Remembrance Day…A story that had been published in the Times in 1993 about Albert Cote of Cote First Nation, who had served in the Second World War, was re-printed as a Remembrance Day feature.
Nov. 14 – Kamsack’s airstrip, where the air ambulance could no longer land, was among the items to concern town council at its regular meeting. It was said that the existing runway would have to be expanded by 800 feet for the air ambulance to land and take off…When the Kamsack Handi bus took several residents of Eaglestone Lodge on a pre-Halloween tour of the community to view the homes that were decorated for the annual trick or treat event, they selected two homes that were named best decorated.
Nov. 21 – The Second World War experience of former Kamsack resident, Peter Dmytruk, who was treated as a hero in France, was recalled during the Remembrance Day service held in Kamsack…Fitz Shaw began work as Kamsack’s director of recreation and community development…Gordon Craig was named the Legionnaire-of-the-year by the Kamsack branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Nov. 28 – Former Kamsack resident Greg Koturbash was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia…Members of the Norquay Knights girls basketball team were honoured to attend the National Philanthropy Day and to be nominated by the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation as one of the 2025 Outstanding Youth Philanthropists.
DECEMBER
Dec. 4 – The Stick Mgnets, a team organized by Kamsack emergency services, met the Lucky Pucks, a KCI team, at a friendly hockey game which raised $700 for Movember…Town council discussed the opening of Kamsack’s new refuse transfer station, and the Community Christmas party during tits regular meeting…Michael Barker of Runnymede was awarded a bursary of $5,000 by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce in the provincial government’s Young Entrepreneur Program.
Dec. 11 – Garrett Keowski of Hamton, who was celebrating his 25th year as a regional pest control officer, discussed his work and the world he sees from the vantage point of one who battles a legislated pest…Kamsack’s OCC Hall was “sold out” of tables for the annual Christmas in November event that attracted various vendors. The event was an initiative of the Kamsack Playhouse Theatre…The Cote Selects hockey team was in the thick of a race in the North Division of the Sask East Hockey League in which a two-game road trip against a couple of formidable foes resulted in a win in Rocanville and a loss at Theodore…James Whitehawk of Cote First Nation joined Niva Wilson and Barry Kennedy of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation in a panel discussion about regaining Indigenous cultural roots during an Indian Residential School Gathering in Yorkton.
Dec. 18 – Teddy Hudye of Kamsack, who had been left as paraplegic after an accident 10 years ago, opened Handi-Capable, a new clothing store featuring custom-made designs on clothing and other objects to be sold. It is located at the former Todd Plymouth Chrysler building on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard…Members of the Heart and Home Quilting Club donated another 20 quilts to the Kamsack and District Nursing Home, which meant that two-thirds of the quilts promised to the nursing home had been donated…The first of two public outings of the RCMP vehicles used for the Stuff the Cruiser campaign was at the Legacy Co-op food store in Kamsack, while a second was scheduled for Dec. 13 at the Broda Sportsplex during the Community Christmas party.
Dec. 25 – Music was played, carols sung, hamburgers were eaten, bells jingled and Santa Claus handed out treats and encouraged everyone to have a great time during the Community Christmas Party held at the Broda Sportsplex in Kamsack…A special reception was held during the Kamsack air cadets’ regular Wednesday parade when three cadets received their promotions…Winners of $250 each at the Shop Local Contest organized by the Kamsack Times were: Sharon Britton who had entered her name while at the Legacy Co-op C-Store, and Loretta Hydamaka who had entered while at KREG’s Augo and Ag/OK Tire…Examples of Victoria School students’ art with a Christmas theme were featured…Among Christmas messages published were from: Sean Wilson, Canora-Pelly MLA; Cathay Wagantall, Yorkton-Melville MP; Bernadette McIntyre, Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor; Premier Scott Moe, and Carla Beck, leader of the Official Opposition.
