SWAN RIVER – Swan River RCMP say 15 people were taken to hospital after a school bus carrying children rolled south of Mafeking on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Mounties were called at about 8:35 a.m. to Highway 10, roughly 13 kilometres south of Mafeking, after receiving a report of a rollover involving a school bus.
Police say the bus was travelling south when the driver attempted to pass another bus and lost control.
The vehicle left the highway, rolled and came to rest upright. Road conditions at the time are believed to have been slippery.
Fifteen people, including the driver, were transported to hospital in Swan River for assessment and treatment. RCMP say four patients, three youth and one adult, were later airlifted to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for further care.
In an earlier update, police said multiple children were treated for injuries at the scene before being taken to hospital. Injuries are described as significant but non-life-threatening.
A Manitoba RCMP forensic collision reconstructionist has been deployed, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police say further information will be released as it becomes available.
