PREECEVILLE — The Preeceville and District Lions Club has continued its tradition of helping others by providing support through various fundraisers. One of its main fundraisers is Chase the Ace, which has helped the Lions continue giving back and supporting non-profit organizations.
“Organizations that helped sell tickets last year and benefited from the proceeds were the Preeceville School Outdoor Space and Playground Project, the Barveenok Ukrainian Dance Club, and the Preeceville Curling Club,” stated a release.
The ticket sales for the new season started on Jan. 9.
“The weekly ticket draw will be held every Thursday beginning Jan 15th, 2026, and will take place at the Preeceville Curling Rink. Tickets will be on sale Friday, 8 am, until the following Thursday, 6:00 pm. The draw will be made at 8:00 pm. Final draw will be Jan 7th, 2027,” stated the Preeceville Lions Chase the Ace page.
Proceeds from ticket sales shall be dispersed as follows: 50 per cent retained by the Preeceville Lions Club and its affiliates; 20 per cent to the weekly draw winner; 30 per cent to the Chase the Ace pot.
“There will be no age restriction to purchase tickets. Tickets will be sold for $5.00/ticket. All tickets are numbered and have matching stubs. Only 100,000 tickets will be sold for a total prize value of $251,500! Any number of tickets can be purchased, but are only valid on the date of purchase. All sold ticket stubs will be saved, dated, and stored separately in a secure location until the next draw.
“Staff and persons involved with the set-up, cutting the deck, selling the tickets, or drawing the tickets are not eligible to participate.
“The charity-appointed proxies are not allowed to participate in the lottery in any way and cannot be members of the Preeceville Lions Club.
“No refunds will be given on ticket purchases. Only one name is allowed per ticket. (If there is more than one name on the ticket, the prize will only be awarded to the first individual’s name listed on the ticket). No group buying is allowed, on one individual’s name on a ticket. Tickets can be purchased by e-transfer to preecevillelionscta@gmail.com or at the following local businesses: Paul’s Drugs, Golden West Hotel, Preeceville Shop Easy, Sturgis Gas Bar, Home Hardware, and Gateway Co-op C-store.
“The minimum Chase the Ace jackpot at the onset of the lottery will be $2,500. And the jackpot will build from there.
“In the following weeks until the Ace of Spades is cut, the 30 per cent (Ace of Spades) jackpot will accumulate each week until the Ace of Spades is cut.
“The winning ticket number and winning name will be announced verbally and displayed visually a minimum of three times over a span of 15 minutes in a manner that the entrants will be able to see/hear. If the winner is not present at the time of the draw, then the club-appointed proxy will cut the deck on their behalf.
“The club-appointed proxies are James Lofthang of Preeceville and Janette Jaques of Preeceville. They are not members of the Lions Club and will not be involved in the lottery in any way, and cannot purchase tickets on their draw week/night. One or the other will be in attendance every draw night.
“The selected card, if not the Ace of Spades, will be removed from the deck and hole-punched to indicate the card is no longer valid. The spent card will then be put into our safe, separate from the rest of the deck. Both before and after the draw, the deck of cards will be displayed in such a manner as to confirm that the Ace of Spades is in the deck. Cards are to be shuffled and mixed sufficiently. Note: The draw supervisor must roll up sleeves or wear short sleeves when conducting the draw.
“When the deck is cut, the top of the bottom half (card facing down) will be considered the card that has been drawn. When there are 20 cards remaining, they will be shuffled and placed face down on a table for the winning ticket holder to draw.
“All weekly winner tickets and non-winning ‘Chase the Ace’ cards will be recorded and kept on file until the winner is declared. Unclaimed cash prizes will be held for a period of one year from the date of the draw. If the cash prizes go unclaimed beyond their hold date, the cash will be donated to a charitable beneficiary approved by SLGA.
“Any ticket purchaser who has a question, complaint, or dispute regarding this lottery can contact the Chase the Ace chairperson, Ralph Ager, at 306-547-7276 or the treasurer, Sharon Draper, at 306-547-8127.
“Any winner who is paid a prize will automatically be deemed to grant to the Preeceville & District Lions Club an irrevocable right to publish, through all types of media broadcasting, including the internet, for the purposes of promoting the win, their name, hometown and photograph without any claim for broadcasting, printing or other rights.
“The winner will provide their full name, address, and phone number to the Preeceville & District Lions Club representative in attendance for reporting requirements to Alcohol & Gaming. The address and phone number will NOT be made public.
“The maximum amount of tickets that any individual ticket buyer can purchase each week is limited to $1,000. After the draw is done on any given Thursday night, if there are fewer than 15,000 tickets left to start the next week’s draw, the maximum amount any individual can buy will be reduced to $50 worth of tickets.
“Play-out play — on Jan. 7, 2027, the final draw will be held and the first ticket drawn, the ticket holder will get 20% of that week’s ticket sales and will get a chance to cut the deck to win the ace jackpot. If the ace is not cut, another ticket will be drawn from the draw drum and the deck will be cut again. This will continue until the Ace of Spades is cut and that person will win the final accumulated ace jackpot. Also during that play-out, if any ace is cut other than the Ace of Spades, the name drawn out of the drum will receive $500.
“In the event that all 100,000 tickets are sold prior to Jan. 7, 2027, the play-out will be that the first ticket drawn will get 20% of the weekly sales and one chance to cut the Ace of Spades. If the Ace of Spades is not cut, names will continue to be drawn from the draw drum until the Ace of Spades is cut. Also, any ace cut other than the Ace of Spades will receive $500.
“We have included in our budget $1,500 of additional payout money, assuming that three other aces (other than the Ace of Spades) may be cut; there could be more than that, but for budgeting purposes, that is the number that is being submitted in the application,” concluded the release.
