CANORA – High energy and big smiles filled Rainbow Hall as the Canora Veselka Ukrainian Dance Club performed at Malanka in Canora on Jan. 9.
Thank you to everyone who attended and worked behind the scenes to support our dancers and celebrate Ukrainian culture. A special thank you to Sheila Dmitruik and the Rainbow Hall ladies for their generous donation to the club.
The program featured Intermediate 2 and 3 groups performing a dance from the Bukovinian region and a high-energy Christmas dance; Junior 1, Junior 2, Intermediate 1, and Intermediate 2 performing Poltava dances; and the Seniors and Intermediate 2 presenting the Hopak.
The evening concluded with a Kolomeyka dance, bringing together past and present club members in a joyful community celebration. The Novice group did not perform but was invited to join in with the Kolomeyka.
The club currently has 41 dancers, ages 3–18 and is excited to welcome a new adult group this year with approximately 10 dancers. Instructors Liana and Serhiy Zabutnyy of Regina lead the dancers in learning and preserving traditional Ukrainian dance.
The Canora Veselka Ukrainian Dance Club greatly appreciates the ongoing support of the community, especially for its fundraising efforts. The club is currently running a cash calendar fundraiser. Those interested in purchasing a calendar can contact any club member or reach out through the Canora Veselka Ukrainian Dance Facebook page. Tickets are nearly sold out, so be sure to get yours before they are gone.
Looking ahead, the club will be performing at the Tavria Ukrainian Dance Competition in Regina from March 19–22, the Kalyna Ukrainian Dance Competition in Yorkton from April 30–May 3, and will host its annual dance concert on Sunday, April 26. The community is invited to come and experience the thrill of high-quality performances and support our dancers throughout the season.
