KAMSACK — In spite of a winter storm which made highway travel treacherous, an appreciative audience applauded a performance of Kinjo and Young at the Kamsack Playhouse Theatre on Jan. 17.
“The crowd really liked them,” said Jack Koreluik, a member of the Playhouse board, which had presented the duo on behalf of the Kamsack Arts Council and Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.
Jory Kinjo and Aron Young of Calgary have toured the world as seasoned artists for decades before uniting their talents into one project, according to the pair. Blues, funk, reggae and soul are the main staples of this dynamic duo who offer a show for audiences of all ages and musical tastes.
This theatre is magical Kinjo said following the performance. “The acoustics are absolutely amazing.”
“You are so lucky as a community to have such a facility,” Young added.
“We know,” Koreluik replied. “That’s why we take care of it.”
“The stormy weather affected the audience turnout,” Koreluik said. “We had people in doubt phoning to ask if the performance was still on.
“The bulk of the people attending were regular patrons, mostly those with season passes.”
In the audience was Eleanor Lenderbeck, a regular attendee of the OSAC concerts, who was heard to say that the Kinjo and Young show was “the best performance she’s seen at the Playhouse.”
The next show being presented at the Playhouse by the Kamsack Arts Council will be Tommy Charles on April 23.
Tommy Charles, who brings a classic touch to country with a soulful tone, throws listeners back to a “golden era,” while carrying sounds reminiscent of Marty Robbins and crooners, said information on the performer.
