PREECEVILLE — Skating and hockey, for many, are an exciting time that often fills busy schedules, but players and skaters across the region paused for the day to remember Jack Prien through a memorial fun skate, complete with free hot chocolate and cookies made by Rachael Kashuba, on Jan. 18 at the Preeceville Skating Arena.
Many remember Prien for his countless volunteer hours with various organizations in Preeceville. He could always be found at events at the sporting grounds, curling rink and hockey arena, volunteering his time and helping wherever he could. Jack was recognized by the Preeceville Minor Hockey Association for his substantial monetary support, along with his dedication and volunteerism spanning nearly 70 years. For 45 of those years, Jack was the sole official scorekeeper for all hockey games held at the Preeceville arena. Although he never played hockey himself, he loved watching the kids play and touched the lives of many hockey families over the years.
Prien passed away on Feb. 12, 2024.
“He may be gone from this world, but we continue to remember and honour his memory through events such as the memorial skate,” stated his close friend, Candace Kuta.
