CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 24 calls from Jan. 22 to Jan. 29 some of which included:
- one abandoned vehicle,
- one assault,
- two break and enters,
- one Coroners Act call,
- one failure to comply with court order,
- one false alarm,
- one Fire Prevention Act call,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- two mischiefs,
- one uttering threats,
- six traffic offences,
- two Trespass Act calls, and
- three wellbeing checks.
Woman with health issues apprehended
On Jan. 29, the Canora RCMP received a warrant to apprehend a 71-year woman under the Mental Health Services Act of Saskatchewan. Police attended a residence in Canora and apprehended the woman. The woman was taken to Yorkton Regional Health Centre.
Intoxicated man makes threats
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Jan. 26 to a residence in a Canora for a man being aggressive, under the influence of drugs, and making threats to burn down the caller’s house. Police attended the home and arrested a 30-year-old man. The man was charged with failure to comply with a release order, failure to comply with probation order, uttering threats to property and mischief under $5,000. The man was remanded and held in custody.
Found unfit to stand trial
A 41-year-old resident of Canora appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court on Jan. 26. The man was charged with assault and sexual inference following two separate investigations by the Canora RCMP in the fall of 2025. The court found the man to be unfit to stand trial and a warrant of committal for hospital detention was issued. The man will be sent to the Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford or a regional psychiatric centre.
Suicidal thoughts, calls 911
On Jan. 23, a woman called 911 reporting suicidal ideations. Police attended a residence in Canora, and the woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Arrested for assault
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Jan. 22 to a residence in the RM of Hazel Dell for a report of a disturbance. Police investigated and arrested a man on scene for assault. The man was released with conditions not to have contact with the victim.
