CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 32 calls from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5, some of which included:
- two 911 Act calls,
- one assault,
- one Coroners Act call,
- one Firearms Act call,
- one fraud,
- two harassing communications,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- one mischief,
- one operation while impaired,
- one pointing a firearm,
- three suspicious persons,
- three thefts,
- one theft of cattle,
- six traffic offences,
- three traffic collisions,
- three uttering threats, and
- one wellbeing check.
Deer-related rollover
On Feb. 5, an iPhone crash notification was sent to 911. The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover west of Canora on Highway 5. Police investigated and learned the driver swerved and hit the ditch to avoid deer crossing the highway. The driver of the vehicle was treated on scene by EMS for minor injuries.
Collision with deer
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 5 to a single vehicle collision with a deer on Highway 9 by Crystal Lake. The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Threats at town office
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance in Canora on Feb. 2. The caller reported a man had had walked into the Canora town office and started to yell and scream at staff over a bylaw disagreement. As the man proceeded to leave the building he turned around and told staff he would return with a firearm. Police located the man at his house and arrested him without incident. A 72-year-old man from Canora was charged with uttering threats and held in custody.
Road rage
On Feb. 1, the Canora and Kamsack RCMP Detachments were dispatched to a report that a black truck pulled up alongside another vehicle traveling on Highway 5 by Mikado. The caller reported the man passenger pointed a firearm at her. The black truck then sped away without further incident. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the black truck. The investigation is ongoing.
Drug-related threat
The Canora RCMP investigated a threatening phone call on Jan. 31. The caller reported a man had called threatening to harm the caller and their family if a drug debt wasn’t paid off. Police believe the call was made to intimidate and harass the caller’s son. Suspects have been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
