CANORA -The Good Spirit Ski Club has had a good start to the year so far with no shortage of snow, which is a bonus given that some years have not been as generous.
It has been a bit of a struggle to keep the trails groomed this year as it seems to snow shortly after the Park staff get the trails set. But skiers are a hearty lot and still make the effort to get out and enjoy the trails.
The club had its AGM (Annual General Meeting) in November and Executive members include: Lana Stanek-Sebastian, president; Dana Antonovich, vice-president; Loralee Anotonovich, secretary and treasurer, and Anne Stupak, Lamplighter Loppet and social media communications.
We are fortunate to have dedicated club members who are always willing to help clear trails, collect wood, maintain the shelter and plan events. Many thanks are owed to outgoing President Darryl Stevenson for his years serving our club. He guided our club over many years and was an integral part of rebuilding the shelter after the fire in 2020.
This year our work bee included stacking firewood, shelter cleanup and installing a new ‘Welcome’ sign above the door. Our memberships continue to grow and those who are interested in joining our club can register at zone4.ca.
The Annual Lamplighter Loppet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21. All skiers are welcome to join us at the shelter that evening around 7 p.m. Headlamps are required as this is an evening ski. This event is one of the more unique events in the area, but it has been cancelled the last two years by poor weather conditions, so we are hopeful that Mother Nature will be co-operative this year and look forward to seeing our trails lit up with headlamps!
