CANORA – After the first visit to Canora last November, the Adam Herold Legacy Foundation Hockey & Leadership Development Program returned to Canora on Jan. 25.
Russell Herold, Adam’s father, said the return trip was to reinforce the lessons introduced to participating player in November, and also “to see how their hockey season is going.”
Even with outdoor temperatures sliding down disturbingly close to -40℃, approximately 80 players participated, according to Stacy Vangen, Canora Minor Hockey Association President. “We had great numbers despite the cold,” said Vangen. “We are so happy with the commitment and attendance of our players and families.”
For the day the players were split into three groups, according to age. The morning on-ice sessions reinforced skill development drills in areas such as passing, shooting, puck handling and goaltending. In the afternoon, players were split into teams for scrimmages, giving them a fun atmosphere to put into practise the things they had learned.
The credentials of the top-notch Adam Herold instructors included:
- NHL, professional and junior playing experience;
- Professional and junior coaching experience;
- Teaching experience; and
- Women’s hockey experience at U18 nationals and U of S Huskies.
Vangen said there were a number of highlights that the participants will probably remember and cherish for a long time
“The instructors said of all camps they have ever done the U7 and U9 players were the best skaters they have seen in their age groups. They said it is a testament to the great coaching these kids are getting and the hard work of our coaches. We are very thankful for the hard work of all our coaches and appreciate this compliment.
“To end the camp Cooper Kraynick (U18 Cobras Captain) gave a presentation and speech to Russell Herold and instructors. They later told us of all the camps they have done since 2018 they have never had a presentation led by a player, and were very thankful for his heartfelt words. Cooper spoke about the importance of leadership and community and the values that this camp taught the participating players. We are thankful to have Cooper as a young leader in our community.”
Russell Herold reminds everyone that applications for 2027 camps will open in March. Three communities are selected each year. For more details, visit adamheroldlegacyfoundation.ca
