It was one of those mornings that makes you glad you live where we do.
On the drive to work today, the sky was putting on a show. Tall, glowing beams of light were stretching high into the air — light pillars reaching straight up like spotlights from the ground to the heavens. They almost didn’t look real. If you’ve ever seen them, you know exactly what I mean. If you haven’t, it’s something special.
Of course, I had to pull over and snap a picture.
And of course… the picture doesn’t do it justice.
It never does, right? The camera just can’t quite capture the magic your eyes see in that moment — the sparkle in the cold air, the way the beams seem to shimmer and shift. It’s one of those “you had to be there” prairie winter scenes.
Now, as beautiful as this morning was, it looks like Mother Nature is about to flip the switch. There’s some nasty weather on the way, with heavy snow and blowing snow expected. The kind that reduces visibility, makes highways dicey, and has you gripping the steering wheel just a little tighter.
If you’ve got travel plans over the next couple of days, give yourself extra time. Make sure the vehicle is ready. And maybe take a moment to appreciate the calm before the storm — because this morning felt like exactly that.
Light pillars, quiet roads, and a reminder that even in the coldest stretches of winter, there’s still beauty to be found.
Hope you have a great week. Stay warm, stay safe, and keep your eyes on the sky — you never know what you might see.
