The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added more competition to their special teams unit, signing Global punter Oscar Chapman.
Chapman, a 6-foot-3, 211-pound Australian, spent five seasons with the Auburn Tigers, where he became one of the most consistent specialists in the Southeastern Conference. He played 59 games for Auburn, booting 243 punts for 10,573 yards — an average of 43.5 yards per kick — and dropped 81 of them inside the 20-yard line. His longest punt travelled 71 yards.
Chapman finished his NCAA career ranked sixth in SEC history in total punts and eighth in punting yards.
After going undrafted, Chapman signed with the Minnesota Vikings and attended training camp with the club last summer.
The Roughriders continue to build their Global depth, and Chapman is expected to compete for duties when camp opens this spring in Saskatoon.
