YORKTON — The Yorkton Tribal Council is bringing the city a weekend of sport, music and family-focused events with its first Community Spirit Games next month.
Community Spirit Games 2026 is scheduled for March 7 and March 8 and will feature competitive tournaments with more than $35,000 in total prize money.
A 12-team hockey tournament will award $20,000 in prizes. A co-ed volleyball tournament featuring eight teams will offer $4,500 in prizes, while a pool tournament will award more than $2,000.
Beyond competition, organizers are planning a range of entertainment and community activities. The schedule includes a live talent show, bingo games and a dry dance designed for kids, elders and families. The Midnight Mist Band is slated to perform more than three hours of live music.
Youth activities will include free bouncy castles, arcade games and a community pool party at the Gallagher Centre. A community bonfire is also planned, complete with sleigh rides, hot chocolate and hot dogs.
Organizers say the total cost to produce the event is close to $100,000. The Yorkton Tribal Council is contributing $47,000, supported by Painted Hand Community Development Corporation funding.
At its Feb. 23 council meeting, the City of Yorkton committed a $12,000 sponsorship toward the event.
City officials say administration will work with the Yorkton Tribal Council to finalize remaining details ahead of the March weekend.
