Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald announced an amendment to AgriStability guidelines.
Beginning this year, pasture-related feed costs will now be included as an allowable expense under the program.
MacDonald said the addition ensures fairer support for livestock producers.
"By including pasture-related feed costs, AgriStability will provide more equitable support for producers whose animals graze on land they do not own, particularly cow-calf, sheep, and goat farmers, who rely heavily on rented pastureland." states Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) in a news release.
AAFC notes the change " reflects a commitment made by federal, provincial and territorial Ministers of Agriculture at their meeting in July 2025."
