The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added NFL experience to their secondary, signing Jerry Jacobs, who started nearly 30 games over three seasons with the Detroit Lions.
Jacobs, 28, broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021 but quickly became a regular starter in Detroit. He played 40 games and made 29 starts for the Lions from 2021 to 2023, totalling 131 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four interceptions, one sack and a forced fumble. He later joined the Los Angeles Rams for the 2024 training camp.
Before turning pro, the Atlanta native carved out an impressive college career in Arkansas. He starred at Arkansas State Red Wolves football with four interceptions in 2018, second in the Sun Belt, and later transferred to the Arkansas Razorbacks in 2020. Jacobs also earned all-conference honours with the Hutchinson Blue Dragons to begin his collegiate journey.
Jacobs now brings an NFL-starting pedigree to a Roughriders defence that continues to retool ahead of the 2026 season.
