YORKTON — Three familiar names in the Yorkton community were recognized for their contributions during a ceremony at City Hall on Monday, Feb. 23.
The City of Yorkton presented its 2025 Civic Recognition Awards ahead of the regular council meeting, highlighting one youth, one adult and one community organization for their service and leadership.
Danica Keyowski received the Youth Civic Recognition Award. Thom Weir was named the Adult Civic Recognition Award recipient, while the Yorkton Lions Club earned the Group Civic Recognition Award.
The awards program recognizes individuals and groups who have made meaningful contributions to Yorkton through volunteerism, leadership and community involvement.
Mayor Aaron Kienle said the annual event is an opportunity to shine a light on the people who continue to invest their time and energy into the city.
“These awards are about more than recognition,” Kienle said. “They’re a chance to celebrate the people and organizations who keep showing up for Yorkton. Danica Keyowski, Thom Weir and the Yorkton Lions Club represent the kind of leadership, service and community spirit that makes our city stronger. Yorkton is a better community because of people and groups like these.”
Keyowski was recognized in the youth category for her volunteer work, leadership and academic accomplishments. The city noted her involvement with local organizations and school initiatives as examples of her commitment to giving back.
Weir was honoured in the adult category for decades of service in Yorkton. His contributions span agriculture, tourism, heritage, sports and several community organizations.
The Yorkton Lions Club was recognized for its longstanding presence in the community and for organizing events and initiatives that bring residents together. The club has also continued to develop the annual Wonders of Winter festival, a signature event in the city.
