If you’ve ever wondered what working in radio is really like, let me clear something up:
It’s not all music and microphones.
Sometimes it’s 4:30 a.m. alarms.
Sometimes it’s coffee that’s way too strong.
Sometimes it’s live-on-location remotes where the wind is doing more talking than you are.
And sometimes… it’s agreeing to film a TikTok that makes you question your life choices — all in the name of “content.”
I was on location at Esterhazy Ford this week hanging out with Mike Wilson. He’s always creating fun videos and coming up with ideas. I should’ve known better when he said, “I’ve got one for you.”
That sentence has never led to something calm or dignified.
Next thing I know, I’m participating in a trend video. The kind you see online and think, “Oh that’s funny.” What you don’t see is the mild embarrassment happening behind the scenes while it’s being filmed in a public parking lot.
Here’s the thing about radio though — we’re always trying to keep things fun. We want to make you laugh. We want to try new stuff. We want to show you that we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
So yes, sometimes that means doing something slightly ridiculous.
Was I a little embarrassed? Absolutely.
Did I still commit to the bit? Also yes.
Because if it makes you laugh scrolling through your feed for even five seconds — it’s worth it.
This is radio life. It’s not always glamorous… but it’s never boring.
And if wearing a ski mask in a parking lot is what it takes to keep you entertained on GX94… well, I guess I’ll keep showing up. Thanks Mike for the fun.
@gx94radio A little fun yesterday at Esterhazy Ford. Tonya Cherry
