Yorkton Terriers Showing Depth and Power
The Yorkton Terriers look every bit like a team gearing up for a serious stretch run. Friday’s 7–2 win over the Nipawin Hawks featured seven different goal scorers and three‑point nights from Gabriel Courchesne and William Leonard. They followed it up Saturday with an 11–1 dismantling of the La Ronge Ice Wolves, where nine Terriers hit the scoresheet and rookie Alexandro Montoya earned the win.
Yorkton now sits just five points back of the Flin Flon Bombers and has leapfrogged the Battlefords North Stars. This is a deep, confident group that’s starting to look dangerous at exactly the right time.
Melfort Mustangs Streak Into Playoff Position
The Melfort Mustangs continue to roll. Saturday’s overtime victory over Flin Flon made it 11 straight victories for the two-time defending champs— handing the Bombers their first dropped point at the Whitney Forum all season.
Melfort has surged from 10th to sixth in just over a month, playing with belief, swagger, and the kind of momentum that makes them a nightmare first‑round matchup.
A Scary Moment in Warman
The weekend also brought a moment that shook everyone across the SJHL. Warman Wolverines defenceman Vincent Palmarin went awkwardly into the end boards, prompting an immediate response from Kindersley Klippers trainer Jayden Villafane and first‑responder nurses, whose quick action and professionalism were praised.
The Wolverines later shared that Palmarin was released from hospital and is now recovering at home, and they expressed deep gratitude to everyone who reached out with support.
It was a stark reminder of how quickly the game can turn. All the best to Vinny in his recovery — the entire SJHL community is pulling for him.
Alumni Making Their Mark in Canada West
SJHL alumni continue to shine at the next level. Yorkton Terriers alum Chantz Petruic earned Second‑Team All‑Star honours with the University of Saskatchewan after posting 36 points in 26 games. Melfort Mustangs product Reilley Kotai made the Canada West All‑Rookie Team with a point‑per‑game season at UBC.
Their success underscores the league’s ability to develop high‑end talent ready for the next step.
Playoff Picture Tightens Across the League
The middle of the standings is pure chaos. Estevan erupted for five third‑period goals in a win over Melville, while Kindersley’s victory over Warman kept them within striking distance of the final playoff spot.
Every shift matters now. Teams are battling for every inch, every point, and every bit of momentum as the regular season winds down. Playoff hockey is coming fast — and this weekend made that crystal clear.
