The latest Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League power rankings are out, and with the regular season winding down, momentum is starting to play a major role across the league.
At number one, the Flin Flon Bombers remain the team to beat. Despite a recent overtime loss at home, the Bombers still boast an incredible 23-0-1 record at the Whitney Forum and continue to control their destiny in the race for the regular-season title.
Sitting second are the Yorkton Terriers, who had surged up the rankings after winning five straight and nine of their last ten. That streak, however, came to an end Wednesday night when the Weyburn Red Wings earned a 4–2 victory on home ice, tightening things up near the top of the standings.
At number three, the defending champions from Melfort Mustangs continue to surge at the right time. Melfort pushed its winning streak to 12 games Tuesday night, defeating the La Ronge Ice Wolves and clinching a playoff spot in the process. The Mustangs have quickly become one of the hottest teams heading toward the postseason.
The Battlefords North Stars hold fourth, continuing to compete despite lineup challenges, while the Nipawin Hawks round out the top five as they push to secure home-ice advantage for the opening round of the playoffs.
The Red Wings slot in sixth after their key victory over Yorkton earlier this week.
Moving up to seventh are the Melville Millionaires, who rebounded Tuesday night with a shutout victory over the Warman Wolverines on home ice, an important response after dropping their previous two games.
The Estevan Bruins sit eighth, followed by the Humboldt Broncos in ninth as they continue battling for consistency late in the season.
Rounding out the rankings, the Kindersley Klippers are tenth, the Wolverines sit eleventh, and the Ice Wolves remain twelfth.
