YORKTON — A Yorkton city councillor is entering the race to become the Conservative candidate in the federal riding of Yorkton-Melville.
Quinn Haider announced on Wednesday, March 4, in a short video posted to social media that he has submitted his paperwork to the Conservative Party of Canada to seek the nomination.
“On Tuesday, March 3, I submitted my paperwork to the Conservative Party of Canada because I want to be your next MP in the Yorkton-Melville riding,” Haider said in the video.
Haider is currently serving as a Yorkton city councillor and is the principal of Saint Paul’s Catholic Elementary School.
His announcement comes after long-time Member of Parliament Cathay Wagantall said she will not seek re-election in the next federal campaign.
Wagantall, first elected in 2015 under the Conservative banner, has represented the Yorkton-Melville riding for a decade.
A timeline for the party’s nomination process has not yet been announced.
Haider is the first publicly known candidate to declare interest in seeking the Conservative nomination.
