LESTOCK — Crews with CN and local emergency responders are at the scene of a train derailment near Lestock.
The company says the incident happened at about 5:40 a.m. near the community northeast of Regina.
Preliminary information indicates 49 loaded rail cars carrying potash left the tracks along the main line.
CN spokesperson Ashley Michnowski said there were no dangerous goods involved in the derailment and there have been no reports of injuries.
“There are no dangerous goods, leaks, fires or injuries reported and there is no threat to public safety,” Michnowski said in a statement.
She added one public crossing in the area is currently blocked and the railway line has been closed while crews respond to the incident.
CN personnel and local first responders are working at the site as cleanup and investigation efforts continue.
Michnowski said the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
CN apologized for the disruption caused by the incident and said more information will be released as it becomes available.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) said it is deploying an investigator following the derailment involving a Canadian National Railway Company train earlier Thursday. The agency said it will gather information and assess the occurrence.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline and rail transportation occurrences. Its mandate is to advance transportation safety, and it does not assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
