CANORA – Building on the momentum of capturing silver medals at districts, the Canora Composite School Senior Mixed Curling Team faced the best foursomes from across the region and went undefeated to win gold medals at regionals in Oxbow on Feb. 27 and 28.
“Super proud of this team!” said Kellyanne Ostafie, Owen’s mom, in a post at the Canora Composite Facebook Page.
Team members Jordan Zbitniff, Owen Ostafie, Merrick Derkatch and Paisley Wolkowski are coached by John Zbitniff and Craig Ostafie.
The win officially secured the team’s spot at provincials.
“What an incredible accomplishment,” continued Kellyanne. “Way to work hard, stay focused, and earn it. Thank you Craig Ostafie and John (Zbitniff) for coaching, and Carmen (Wolkowski) and Sheldon (Derkatch) for all the support!”
There were six teams in the field for regionals and the Canora foursome were deserving champions, winning all three of their games.
Provincials were set for March 6-7 in Moose Jaw, with a field of eight teams vying for the title of Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association mixed curling champions.
