KAMSACK — The beginning of tax enforcement procedures, business licences and the sale of properties were on Kamsack town council’s agenda for its regular meeting of March 9.
Council was told that Form A, which is the first step in tax enforcement, has been prepared and includes 49 properties.
At the beginning of the year, the list had about 100 properties, but then courtesy letters were sent to all the property owners affected, and all the others made arrangements for payment of property taxes in arrears, said Barry Hvidston, chief administrative officer.
That was a “really good” response, Hvidston said.
Owners of 10 properties are still owing 2024 taxes, he said, explaining that those properties are on a six-month list, which means that if not paid in six months, the town will be applying for title.
Council was told the community’s business licence list contains about 120 businesses for 2026.
A benefit of being on the list is that those businesses are listed on the town’s website, he said.
Council agreed to sell 206-Wall Ave. to Braiden Berezowski, who owns an adjacent property.
Council also decided to sell 123-Wall Ave. to Reynan Yamson, who is a member of the group which recently purchased the former All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Windsor Avenue, which is to be used as a house of worship. Yamson told council that he proposes to use the Wall Avenue property, located across the alley from the church, for parking because too many vehicles are being parked in front of the church on Windsor Avenue.
