If there’s one thing I’ve really come to appreciate on our Saskatchewan highways, it’s passing lanes. Seriously… I love them.
It’s actually hard to remember what some of these stretches were like before they had them. The drives from Fort Qu’Appelle to Balgonie, Yorkton to Melville, Yorkton to Langenburg, or Canora to Yorkton just feel smoother, safer, and way less stressful now. Instead of being stuck behind someone going 80 (you know the situation), you can just wait for that passing lane, make your move, and carry on your way.
And let’s be honest—how many close calls have those lanes prevented over the years? I’m sure they’ve saved countless lives. No risky passing, no white-knuckle moments… just a simple, safe opportunity to get where you’re going.
That’s why I was so happy to hear they’re adding passing lanes on the Melville to Fort Qu’Appelle stretch this summer. That’s a big win for anyone who travels that route regularly.
Now sure, construction season isn’t exactly anyone’s favourite time of year. Slower speeds, detours, and the occasional lineup can test your patience. But this is one of those cases where the short-term inconvenience is absolutely worth the long-term payoff.
Because once those lanes are in? Game changer.
Less stress. Safer trips. And if you’re anything like me… probably a noticeable drop in blood pressure too!
Here’s to more passing lanes and smoother drives across Saskatchewan.
