Update: The special weather statement has been lifted, but a snowfall warning is now in effect for parts of eastern Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada issued the special weather statement for parts of central and northern Saskatchewan, including the cities of Saskatoon and Prince Albert, the district of Lakeland and communities within dozens of RMs, early on March 24.
It has since been replaced with a snowfall warning for communities in 45 RMs in east-central and northeast Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada says snowfall with total amounts of 15-20 centimetres is expected in the affected areas.
"A developing low-pressure system will bring accumulating snowfall to the region starting Wednesday morning [March 25] and continuing through Wednesday evening and overnight. The exact location of the heaviest snow remains uncertain, but significant accumulations are likely in some areas."
Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, the warning states.
SaskToday will have updates as they become available.
