KELLIHER — Punnichy RCMP have charged a man with kidnapping with a firearm following an incident that began in Kelliher.
Punnichy RCMP arrested the man in relation to a kidnapping and assault investigation that began on March 19 at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Officers received a report of a kidnapping with a firearm in Kelliher. The investigation determined a male was sitting in a parked vehicle outside a business when a second male approached, pointed a firearm at the victim, threatened him and entered the vehicle. The firearm was not discharged.
The suspect then ordered the victim to drive. The victim complied, later parking near a residence on George Gordon First Nation.
While parked, a male and female approached the vehicle to assist the victim. An altercation occurred between the assisting individuals and the suspect, during which the suspect broke one of the vehicle’s windows and deployed bear mace toward the male and female.
Punnichy RCMP responded and arrested the suspect at the scene on George Gordon First Nation. All three victims — two males and one female — were assessed by EMS for injuries described as non-life-threatening. The suspect was also taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
During the arrest and a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a sawed-off firearm, ammunition, two cans of bear mace, a machete, a baton, approximately 36 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 24 grams of fentanyl and approximately six grams of psilocybin.
As a result of the investigation, 31-year-old Adrian Frank, of Kelliher, is charged with:
- one count of pointing a firearm;
- one count of kidnapping with a firearm;
- one count of forcible confinement;
- two counts of uttering threats against a person;
- three counts of assault with a weapon;
- one count of possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without a licence/registration;
- one count of possession of a prohibited weapon knowing possession was unauthorized;
- four counts of weapons possession contrary to an order;
- one count of possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in a motor vehicle;
- four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- one count of assault;
- three counts of carrying a concealed weapon; and
- one count of mischief under $5,000.
Frank appeared in court in Punnichy on March 24.
