ESTEVAN — The Estevan Motor Speedway has announced it won't be able to race in April this year.
The speedway has scrubbed plans to have a program on April 25 due to forecasted weather for the weekend. It's the second straight program the track has been forced to call off, as it had previously cancelled races slated for April 18.
The season-opening program is now scheduled for May 2.
"We had initially looked forward to hosting some early season races this year, however weather conditions have not been favourable," the speedway said in a Facebook post.
A track clean-up event is slated for April 21 at 5 p.m. to complete on-site tasks before the temperature drops again.
The speedway announced its intention to have April racing for the first time in an effort to have more racing programs for fans and drivers, but the track recognized their hopes would be dependent on weather conditions.
The speedway's opening weekend has traditionally been on the first weekend of May.
While the southeast is currently enjoying warm temperatures, rain and even snow are currently in the forecast for April 23 and 24, to be followed by sub-zero temperatures April 25.
