The identity of the body discovered following a house fire on DeCorby Street in Kamsack on April 10 was not being released as of April 22.
On April 10 at approximately 11:40 a.m., Kamsack RCMP received a report of a residence on fire on DeCorby Street in Kamsack, according to a release from RCMP Media.
Officers responded, along with Kamsack fire department, the release said. The fire was extinguished. Kamsack RCMP secured the scene.
The house was fully engulfed in flames when the fire brigade had arrived, said Ken Thompson, Kamsack fire chief. The brigade was at the scene for about nine hours.
The brigade returned to the house from about 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the next day to continue a search of the building and discovered a body in the basement, Thompson said. The body appeared to be of a female in her mid-30s.
RCMP notified the family, the RCMP release said.
The owner of the building was not at the building at the time of the fire, Thompson said.
Kamsack RCMP engaged fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency to assist with determining the cause and origin of the fire, the release said. Based on initial investigation, the fire was determined to be non-suspicious in nature. As such, this matter is not being investigated by police.
