Update:
SASKATCHEWAN — A number of weather warnings persist in northern Saskatchewan due to a powerful winter storm that is blasting the region.
Environment Canada has issued two orange-level winter storm warnings, a yellow-level winter storm warning and two yellow-level snowfall warnings.
One orange-level snowfall warning covers 10 areas. It states snowfall continues, with storm total accumulations to be between 35 and 60 centimetres through the system. An additional five to 10 centimetres will fall April 24, Environment Canada said. The snow will ease by the evening of April 24 when periods of light snow are forecast.
The other, which covers seven areas, says snowfall continues with total accumulations of 40-70 centimes expected through the system by the time the snow stops.
An additional five to 15 centimetres of snow will fall April 24, Environment Canada said. Snowfall will be heaviest in the northeast corner of the province. Light snowfall accumulations are expected in the evening of April 24 and into the following day.
Also, the fresh snow is combining with winds gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour will bring poor visibility in blowing snow in exposed areas.
"Roads and walkways will likely be very difficult to navigate," Environment Canada said. "Travel will likely be hazardous. Road closures are possible. Roofs are at an increased risk of collapse under the weight of snow. Keep roofs clear to avoid the danger of heavy snow loads. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow."
A yellow-level winter storm warning is in effect for a few northern areas. Environment Canada says total accumulations are to be between 20 and 30 centimetres.
An additional five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected to fall April 24 before the snow tapers off later in the day. Blowing snow may occur over exposed areas.
As for the yellow snowfall warnings, one is for the city of Prince Albert, the district of Lakewood and more than 30 RMs. Snowfall of 15-20 centimetres is expected by the morning of April 24.
The other is for Green Lake and four RMs, and also calls for 15-20 centimetres of snow by April 25.
Wind, rain and freezing rain warnings, as well as a special weather statement, have been lifted.
