SASKATOON — A 14-year-old boy and 24-year-old man are facing charges after a fiery crash involving a stolen vehicle in Saskatoon.
Police say it happened Tuesday morning when a Dodge Durango crashed into a van that then caught fire, sending an 82-year-old man to hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities say that before the crash, RCMP received several calls that a black Dodge Durango was being driven erratically on Highway 11, north of Saskatoon.
The RCMP passed the call to Corman Park police officers, who located the SUV and tried to pull it over.
The SUV sped away into Saskatoon, ultimately travelling down the shoulder of the road and through heavy traffic before it hit the Ford Transit van.
A Corman Park officer arrested the driver of the SUV and, with the help of a responding RCMP officer, pulled the 82-year-old man out of the van that caught fire.
Police say the man remains in hospital, but no further details were provided.
Police say the teen and the 24-year-old man are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.
The teen is also facing charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop after a collision and evading police, while the 24-year-old has also been charged with breaching court-imposed conditions.
Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team says it is investigating the actions of the Corman Park police.
