TORONTO — Two Canadians are among the 30 passengers who disembarked a cruise ship that’s been hit by a deadly hantavirus outbreak.
Ship operator Oceanwide Expeditions says the individuals left the boat on the remote South Atlantic island of St. Helena on April 24.
The body of a Dutch man who died on April 11 was taken off the ship that same day.
The World Health Organization says eight hantavirus cases have been reported including three deaths.
Canadian officials said in a statement Wednesday night that the Public Health Agency of Canada is connecting with the Canadians who were on board to give guidance on isolation and public health measures.
The World Health Organization says it deems the overall public health risk as low.
