The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ first-round draft pick is on his way to the Land of the Living Skies.
The Riders announced Wednesday morning they have signed Canadian defensive back Malcolm Bell.
That news follows reports earlier this week that Bell was not offered a contract by the Cleveland Browns after he accepted an invite in April to the team’s rookie mini-camp.
Saskatchewan selected Bell ninth overall in this year’s CFL Canadian draft.
Listed at 6-foot-2, Bell started in 11 of his 12 games played with the Michigan State University Spartans last year, setting career highs in tackles (49) and tackles for a loss (five) while also posting a team-high six pass breakups and registering his first career sack.
Bell was also the team’s highest graded defender according to Pro Football Focus with a score of 79.3.
Before transferring to Michigan State for his senior year, Bell played three seasons with the University of Connecticut Huskies (2022-24) in addition to redshirting in 2021.
