After sitting out the club’s exhibition schedule opener Monday, Trevor Harris has been confirmed as the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ starting quarterback for Saturday’s preseason game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatoon’s Griffiths Stadium.
Harris, who guided the Riders under centre to their fifth Grey Cup championship in November, will be backed up in order – according to the depth chart released by the team Friday morning – by Jack Coan, Brayden Schager and Tommy Stevens.
Saturday’s contest will also mark the preseason debuts for a number of other familiar names.
Kian Schaffer-Baker, KeeSean Johnson, Dhel Duncan-Busby and Sam Emilus are slated to start at receiver alongside newcomer Jaylen Johnson.
A.J. Oullette is slated to start at running back while the starting offensive line will include left tackle Payton Collins, centre Logan Ferland and right tackle Jacob Brammer. The starting O-line guard slots will be filled by rookies Erik Andersen and Jaison Williams.
Defensively, the Riders will run back four of their five backfield starters from the 112th Grey Cup with Marcus Sayles, Rolan Milligan Jr., DaMarcus Fields and Tevaughn Campbell, while Nelson Lokombo starts at safety for the second game in a row.
Lokombo notably made a diving goal-line interception on an errant throw from Calgary Stampeders quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. in Saskatchewan’s preseason opener Monday.
After making a pair of plays at boundary-side cornerback Monday, 2026 first-round draft pick Malcolm Bell will back up Campbell – who made his training camp debut Wednesday – at strong side corner.
And defensive end Desmond Evans will get another chance to woo the coaching staff after an uneven performance against the Stamps, starting opposite James Vaughters and backed up by Northwestern University Wildcats alumnus Jaylen Pate.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:07 p.m. with Dave Thomas and Luc Mullinder on the call, and the Rider Broadcast Network’s pre-game show airing from 2-5 p.m.
