Saskatchewan Roughriders draft pick Sidy Sow has been waived by the NFL’s Houston Texans.
The Riders picked Sow in the sixth round, 48th overall, in the 2023 CFL Canadian Draft – the same year he was drafted in the fourth round by the NFL’s New England Patriots and the 10th round by the United States Football League’s Michigan Panthers.
The left guard from Quebec opted to go stateside and subsequently dressed for 15 games, starting 13 of them, in his rookie season with New England – the team’s last under head coach Bill Belichick.
Sow then started just one of the 12 games he dressed for in 2024, and was released by the Patriots ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
He joined the Houston Texans’ practice roster less than two weeks later, and signed a futures/reserve contract in January before his recent release.
The Riders drafted Sow out of Eastern Michigan University where the 6-foot-5, 318-pounder graduated as the Eagles’ all-time leader in games played and games started, and received first-team All Mid-American Conference honours in each of his final two collegiate seasons.

McAdoo was the Riders’ offensive coordinator and assistant head coach from 2016-19, after winning Grey Cups in 2015 as the Edmonton Elks’ (nee Eskimos) offensive coordinator and in 2012 as run game coordinator and offensive line coach for the Toronto Argonauts.
Sask. connections abound in Stanley Cup Final
The Stanley Cup Final begins tonight with the Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Vegas Golden Knights, with both teams chasing their second NHL championships and Saskatchewan connections dotting the series on both sides.
Forward Brett Howden, who captained the Moose Jaw Warriors from 2015-17 as part of his 248 games with the WHL club, is tied for the Golden Knights’ team lead with 10 playoff goals.
On the blue line, Vegas teammates Brayden McNabb of Yorkton and Kaeden Korczak of Yorkton have contributed four and three points, respectively.
McNabb is fourth among Vegas defencemen for ice time in this year’s playoffs at 20 minutes 52 seconds per game, and also sits second on the team with 31 blocked shots this postseason, while holding a plus-7 even-strength goal differential.
On the hockey operations side, Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon grew up at Plenty, while Carolina head coach Rod Brind’Amour played two seasons of under-18 AAA puck and one at the junior A level from 1985-88 with the Notre Dame Hounds program in Wilcox.
