CANORA – The Ukrainian Heritage Museum of Canora opened its doors for the summer of 2026 with an open house and hot dog sale on June 3.
Traffic was steady as visitors took in the wide array of historical items on display at the Museum, and if they got hungry, hot dogs were available with the tasty option of adding onions and sauerkraut.
Museum member Dorothy Korol said they enjoy showing visitors around the museum, including new items that are added from time to time. With the aid of a grant from the provincial Ukrainian Canadian Congress the Museum has added about 10 new mannequins, including the Bukovinian girl that welcomes visitors as they come through the door.
The Museum has also recently added a new cabinet, made available when the Ukrainian Museum in Saskatoon no longer needed it. The cabinet provides an appropriate setting for photos and information on Taras Schevchenko (1814-1861), a globally famous Ukrainian poet, writer, artist, and political figure. According to information found in Wikipedia, he gained fame with the poetry collection Kobzar, blending Romanticism with calls for freedom and social justice. Arrested for anti‑imperial writings, he endured a decade of exile, yet left a lasting legacy as the founder of modern Ukrainian literature and a symbol of resistance.
