SASKATCHEWAN — There have been some concerns about artificial intelligence taking over the workplace in Saskatchewan. However, in a recent poll conducted by the Angus Reid Institute, many employed residents are welcoming AI technology to the job sites as a tool.
The most common AI platforms that are currently being utilized include ChatGPT, Gemini (Google) and Meta AI (Facebook, Instagram), for both personal and work-related use. In Saskatchewan, 15 per cent of those who were polled use AI platforms multiple times throughout the day at work, while 63 per cent do not use AI at all while on the clock. Those who do use AI as a tool, 81 per cent say it is because they want to, while 19 per cent say they have been told to use it.
Thirty-five per cent of companies that have begun using AI platforms already have an AI policy in place, while another 31 per cent is currently developing policies, and 34 per cent do not have a policy in place.
The majority of employed Saskatchewan residents have seen no real impact on productivity, quality or satisfaction with their work. However, 45 per cent believe that AI will have a mixed impact on their current industry over the next decade, with some positive and some negative aspects. Yet, 24 per cent of Saskatchewan residents see AI as a tool to enhance their work, and 47 per cent are not very worried about being replaced.
Throughout the poll, the Saskatchewan numbers are very similar to the data collected from other provinces in Canada.
