INVERMAY- Athletes and coaches from Invermay School made what turned out to be a rewarding trip to Saskatoon for track-and-field provincials held on June 5-6.
Coach Kent Seerey said the junior girls javelin event provided the standout moment of the meet for Invermay.
“Cassidy Bosovich launched a massive personal best in the javelin – beating her District throw by three meters on her second last attempt – to capture the bronze.”
Her medal winning throw traveled 31.26 metres. But Seerey said Invermay School had much more to feel good about.
“We had a great showing at provincials. I am very proud that eight of the team’s 20 potential athletes advanced from Districts to the big stage, bringing home five top-eight finishes, five personal bests, and a bronze medal.
“For many of our young athletes, it was their first taste of provincial competition, setting a strong foundation for their high school careers.”
Michael Mesias competed in four junior boys events with the following results:
• Triple jump: fifth with a distance of 12.04m
• Javelin: 10th, 36.27m
• Long jump: 13th, 5.71m
• 4 X100 Relay: fifth, 46.35 seconds
Weston Glas was in three events at provincials:
• Javelin: eighth with a personal best throw of 36.97m
• Discus: 13th, 30.02m
• Hurdles: 21st, personal best (time was unavailable)
Jasmin Kowalyshyn finished seventh in junior girls high jump, clearing a personal best height of 1.45m.
In junior girls action, Hanna Enge placed sixteenth in javelin with a throw of 21.14m and 22nd in triple jump with a personal best distance of 8.69m.
Angelo Ferenal came in 22nd in senior boys hurdles in a time of 18.04 seconds.
In intermediate girls events, Caidence Keller placed 23rd in both shot put at 8.26m and discus, 19.15m.
Tyla Dubas finished 22nd in senior girls discus, covering a distance of 22.75m.
Coach Seerey said it’s been a short but productive track-and-field season for Invermay School.
“Overall, we have a strong track program of dedicated individuals who strive to improve. Right from elementary, all the way up to high school, our student athletes make track-and-field a priority. With the help of staff, parents, and community we have a lot of support. To think there was still snow on our playground about a month ago, is unbelievable how fast our athletes got themselves performing at district and provincial levels.”
