CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 44 calls from June 10 to June 18, some of which included:
- two 911 Act calls,
- two abandoned vehicles,
- one Coroners Act call,
- one disturbing the peace,
- two failures to comply with order,
- one Fire Prevention Act call,
- two frauds under $5,000,
- two harassing communications,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- two mischiefs under $5,000,
- two municipal bylaws calls,
- one sexual assault,
- five thefts under $5,000,
- one traffic collision,
- 10 traffic offences,
- three Trespass Act calls,
- five wellbeing checks, and
- two prisoners.
Unwanted screaming visitor
On June 17, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a 911 call in Canora. The caller reported an intoxicated man in her yard yelling and screaming. Police went to the scene and arrested the man. A 62-year-old man from Canora was charged with mischief under $5,000 and held in custody until sober.
Parking lot burnouts not a good idea
On June 16, the Preeceville Co-op reported an early 90s orange and white Chevy short box truck was doing burnouts in the parking lot in early morning of June 15. A suspect has been identified. Investigation for stunting is ongoing. Police would like to remind the public that the parking lot at the Preeceville Co-op is not to be used as a location to commit stunting. A stunting conviction brings severe, immediate penalties, including steep fines, vehicle impounds, and licence suspensions.
Jackknifed truck & camper
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on June 13 to a report that a Ford F350 with a camper trailer was jackknifed on Highway 5 by Mikado. Police attended the scene and learned the camper started to sway leading to the jackknifing. There were no injuries.
Missing intoxicated man found fast asleep
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report that a man walked away from a residence in Canora intoxicated on June 12. The caller was worried for the man due to his level of intoxication and he was not replying to phone calls or text messages. Police searched for the man and eventually located him sleeping at friend’s home.
