MELVILLE — A 55-year-old Melville man has been charged with attempted murder after two RCMP officers were seriously injured in a shooting while responding to a report of an assault.
Saskatchewan RCMP said its Serious Crimes Unit has continued to investigate the shooting in Melville that injured two RCMP officers on June 21.
The investigation determined an altercation occurred between two individuals. Police said an adult man threatened and assaulted the other individual, who did not report physical injuries to police.
Officers responded to the incident and were injured upon arriving at the residence.
Investigators have since recovered a firearm at the residence.
As a result of the continued investigation, Markus Dodge, 55, from Melville, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of discharge firearm with intent, two counts of pointing a firearm and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.
In relation to the initial altercation, Dodge is also charged with one count of uttering threats and one count of assault with a weapon.
Dodge is scheduled to appear in Yorkton provincial court on June 23 at 9:30 a.m.
The injured officers remain in hospital. RCMP said they are in stable condition; however, their injuries are serious and potentially life-altering in nature.
RCMP said they appreciate the support that has been expressed for the officers and know many people are interested in more details about them and the nature of their injuries, but they want to be mindful of their privacy during this difficult time.

The charges have not been proven in court.
