Saskatchewan Roughriders' quarterback Trevor Harris is eager to see how wide receiver D’Sean Mimbs will do in his first CFL start against Toronto this Friday.
"You guys have probably heard more words spoken from D’Sean than we have as players. He's a very quiet guy, but he's explosive. He can really run. He's paying attention to every word in meetings. When you tell him to do something, he does it. I think that he's the kind of guy that could come out and make some big catches Friday and maybe get in the end zone," Harris said to the media.
"You don't know, especially with the way we kind of do progressions and the way that we kind of formulate the game plans. He's a guy that could really take off Friday. You just never know. I'm excited for D’Sean and being a local guy, too. He's always doing the right things in the right spot, runs great routes, and he can go now, and so it'll be fun to see him go out there Friday."
The Riders selected Mimbs in the sixth round of the 2024 CFL draft with the 50th pick, and before that, he played collegiately with the Regina Rams. During his time with the Rams, he caught 130 passes totalling 1,717 yards and ten touchdowns.
Harris later elaborated on Mimbs' work ethic and dedication before his first CFL start.
"I think everything's earned in life, and I think that if you don't earn it, it doesn't mean as much to you, right? So he's really stuck to it. I couldn't be more excited for a guy like D’Sean because he does things the right way. He trains hard, never complains," Harris explained.
"He's always doing those sorts of things. But to me, it's an opportunity that arises for him, and when opportunity arises, you're going to find out the work that he's put in leading up to this moment if he was doing the right things, and I think he has. I think Friday will be a good day for him."
Last year against the Argonauts, the Green and White met them twice and defeated them in both meetings: the first time in Week 3, 39-32, and the second in Week 19, 27-19.
Looking ahead to the game against Toronto this Friday, Harris reiterates the team's mindset of being 1-0 each week.
"The shirt kind of describes it, right? 1-0 is always the mindset. Whatever it takes to win is really what it is. There's not always going to be games where you need to throw for 400 or whatever it is, or if we run for 300. That's really what this mindset of this team is, what needs to happen for us to win football games," Harris said.
"But they pose unique challenges: very explosive offence, statistically up there at the top of the categories in defence across the league, and so we know they bring a unique challenge, but so do we."
