YORKTON — The Yorkton Exhibition Summer Fair is set to return July 1-4, bringing four days of entertainment, agricultural showcases, live music, midway attractions and family activities to the Yorkton Exhibition grounds.
The annual event will kick off on Canada Day and feature a mix of traditional fair attractions and special events aimed at visitors of all ages.
Among the featured attractions this year are three days of chariot and chuck wagon racing, along with performances by the Extreme Lumberjacks, the iFlip aerial acrobatics show and the Farmer's Daughter Show. Fairgoers will also have opportunities to experience mechanical bull riding, visit a petting zoo featuring a variety of animals and take rides with Tail Winds Clydesdales.
West Coast Amusements will once again provide midway rides, games and food concessions throughout the four-day fair.
The opening day on July 1 has been designated Seniors Day. Activities will include the Yorkton 4-H Regional Show and Sale, followed by opening ceremonies and a senior’s tea in the afternoon. Entertainment will feature Back Home Country and later a performance by Saskatchewan band Gibson & Co. Seniors will receive discounted gate admission until 4 p.m.
July 2 will focus on younger visitors during Kiddies Day. The annual Kiddies Day Parade will return, and children aged 12 and under will receive free admission until 2 p.m. when accompanied by a paying adult. The day's events will also include the Light Horse Show and an evening performance by Indigenous recording artist Terri-Anne Strongarm.
Family Day is scheduled for July 3. Organizers are offering a family admission package and the final day of chuck wagon racing. The evening entertainment will feature Bed of Roses, a tribute band performing the music of Bon Jovi.
The fair's final day, July 4, will begin with the Painted Hand Casino and SIGA Parade. This year's parade theme is "Horses, Hats and Hometown Pride." The day will also feature the J-Mack Sandblasting Demolition Derby and a grandstand performance by Saskatchewan country artist Josh Stumpf.
The four-day event will conclude with a fireworks display presented by Yorkton Hyundai.
In addition to headline entertainment, visitors can take in the trade show, Kids Zone and a variety of agricultural and community exhibits throughout the fairgrounds.
