CANORA – During the graduation exercises held at King George Park on June 25, some two dozen different scholarships were awarded to 15 students.
A new addition this year, the Ralph Davis scholarship was awarded by his son Mike to Tucker Mydonick. Mike said his father, who used to own the Canora Courier, “always believed in education.” The criteria is that the scholarship goes to a high school graduate entering Sask Polytech.
The Canora Fire & Rescue scholarship was won by Andrew Owchar, presented by firefighter Carrie Baron and fire chief Jess Harper. Harper said, “The Canora Fire Brigade Bursary is given to an active member of the fire department that is attending a post secondary program. The recipient of this year’s bursary joined our department last year, and over that year we have been able to watch him grow as a firefighter. His determination and willingness to learn make us proud to call him one of our own. Congratulations Andrew, we are so proud of you.”
Ernie Anuik presented the Anuik Graduation scholarship to Meekah Unick.
Kale Strelioff won four scholarships: the Canora Ag Society scholarship, the Nutrien scholarship, the Peter Negraeff scholarship, and the Shawn Patenaude Law scholarship.
Also earning four scholarships was Cooper Kraynick: the Growing Forward scholarship from Lindgren Farms, the Richardson Pioneer scholarship, the Canora Ag Society scholarship and the Walker Wood scholarship.
Colton Bletsky was the winner of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League scholarship, the Long Lake Insurance scholarship and the second of two Walker Wood scholarships.
Falyn Ostafie was the winner of the RCMP scholarship and the Gateway Co-op scholarship.
Taking home the Town of Canora scholarship and the Canora Hospital Auxiliary scholarship was Katie Hauber.
Jada Nordin was the winner of the Leson’s Funeral Home & Monumental scholarship as well as the Warren Davis scholarship.
The Sask PSI Master Beta Sigma Phi Group scholarship and the Crossroads Credit Union scholarship went to Brenna Reine.
Linden Roebuck and Kayden Harder each won Community Insurance scholarships.
Jordan Makowsky was the winner of the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship & Trade Certification Commission scholarship.
The winner of the Kondratoff Persick Law Practice scholarship was Gracie Hamm.
Jace Wolos was the winner of the Aspen Paramedic Services scholarship.
