SASKATCHEWAN — A special weather statement has been issued for much of the province due to an approaching heat wave.
According to the advisory issued by Environment Canada on July 8, a "long-duration heat event" is expected over much of southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba, beginning the afternoon of July 10 and lasting well into next week.
Temperatures will approach the 30 C mark on July 10 and climb to the mid 30s by the end of the weekend.
"Conditions will be particularly muggy this weekend, especially in regions along and south of the Trans-Canada Highway, with humidex values approaching 45 on Sunday [July 12]," the advisory states.
Temperature and humidex values will ease slightly early next week, but daytime highs will remain in the high 20s to low 30s range for most of the week.
Heat warnings will be issued as the event draws near, Environment Canada said.
The advisory is one of a few currently in effect for the province. A tornado warning has been in effect for a couple of RMs in northwest Saskatchewan. A tornado watch is also in effect for west-central and northwest Saskatchewan, while thunderstorm watches are in effect for southwest and northern Saskatchewan. An air quality statement is in effect for the far north.
