CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 46 calls from July 2 to July 9, some of which included:
- Three 911 Act calls,
- one abandoned vehicle,
- two assaults,
- one assault on police,
- one assault with a weapon,
- one break and enter,
- three breaches of peace,
- one disturbing the peace,
- one failure to comply with conditions,
- five false alarms,
- one Family Law Act call,
- one harassing communications,
- one impaired operation of a motor vehicle,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- one municipal bylaw call,
- one mischief under $5,000,
- one robbery with offensive weapon,
- one suspicious person,
- three uttering threats,
- two traffic collisions, and
- 13 traffic offences.
Drinking, assaulted officer
On July 3, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Canora for a report that a man was breaching their conditional sentence order by drinking alcohol. Police went to the residence and spoke to the man who was found to be intoxicated. The man resisted arrest and became violent towards the arresting officers. A 20-year-old man from Canora has been charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and uttering threats. The man was remanded into custody to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court.
Children report assaults at home
Canora RCMP members heard a knock at the door and found two children outside the detachment on July 4 at 3:25 a.m. The children reported a disturbance inside their home. Police went to a residence in Canora and learned an intoxicated man had assaulted numerous persons. A 35-year-old man from Canora was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, assault, and assault while choking. The man was remanded into custody to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court. Yorkton Child and Family Services were contacted to assist with the investigation.
Online accusation unfounded
The Canora RCMP investigated a report on July 5 of a social media post accusing a man of taking pictures of children at Good Spirt Lake. Police investigated and learned the identity of the man and determined there was no threat to public safety.
Neighbours feuding
On July 5, the Canora RCMP received phone calls from two feuding neighbours both complaining about the other. Police went to the scene located in Canora and spoke to both men. One man complained of a banana peel being put on the fence to attract birds to harass his dog, while the other man complained that his property is being tampered with. Police mediated the feud and provided options to each party for a peaceful resolution.
Alleged assault
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Canora for a report of an assault on July 5. The caller reported going to a residence to retrieve property and was pushed to the ground by an occupant of the home. Investigation ongoing.
Mutual assaults
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on July 6 to a residence in the RM of Sliding Hills for a report of a disturbance. Police went to the residence and determined multiple assaults had occurred. A man and woman were both charged with assault and released on conditions not to have contact with each other.
Impaired driver charged
On July 7, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report if a white SUV driving all over the road on Highway 9 by Crystal Lake. Police located and stopped the vehicle. The driver of the SUV showed signed of impairment and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver provided two breath samples of 160mg% and 140mg%, and was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operate a motor vehicle over 80mg%. The man’s drivers’ licence was also suspended, and his vehicle was impounded for 60 days.
RCMP looking for assistance
Canora RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect and locating a truck stolen in an armed robbery in the RM of Sliding Hills. On July 7, at approximately 5 p.m., Canora RCMP received a report of an armed robbery. Officers responded and determined an adult man with a weapon threatened an individual and stole their truck at a residence in the RM of Sliding Hills. The suspect fled east toward Kamsack. No physical injuries were reported to police.
The stolen truck is described as a grey 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 truck with Saskatchewan license plate 247 NQF. At press time, neither the truck nor the suspect had been located.
The suspect is described as a male, 5’10”, 200 lbs, with brown eyes and short black hair. He has visible tattoos. He was last seen wearing a red T-shirt, shorts and running shoes.
Yorkton RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Section, and Saskatoon Serious Crimes Unit are assisting with this investigation.
Canora RCMP continue to investigate.
