PREECEVILLE — The community of Preeceville welcomed residents and guests to come celebrate a week-long set of activities that featured numerous fundraising events during Old Home Week from July 6-10.
"The goal of the annual celebration is to provide an opportunity for former residents and guests to check out what's new in town," stated a release from the Town of Preeceville.
Old Home Week is a practice that originated in the New England region of the United States, similar to a holiday or festival. In its beginning, in the 19th – 20th century, it involved a municipal effort to invite former residents of a village, town, or city – usually individuals who grew up in the municipality as children and moved elsewhere in adulthood – to visit the Old Home, the parental household and hometown.
The idea is to have events around one week each summer so former residents and guests can be as busy as they please while checking out what's new in town.
The events were scheduled to kick off on July 6 with Preeceville Mackenzie Society hosting a taco salad lunch, dirty sodas and iced coffees. On July 7 the Preeceville Personal Care Home featured a perogie and sausage lunch, followed on the next day by the Preeceville Club 60 hot-dog, pie and coffee afternoon.
The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum hosted an outdoor clay oven baked bread, jam and chili day on July 9. The Crossroads Credit Union staff members were in the Centennial Park serving ice cream on July 10. The event was by silver collection.
Friday featured the Main Street Market held in the parking lot adjacent to the highway, with the Nordic Ski Club sponsoring a barbecue lunch.
