PREECEVILLE — Along with the featured chariot and chuckwagon races, there were numerous other activities to keep everyone busy at the Preeceville and District Lions Club Western Weekend on July 10, 11 and 12.
Despite the extreme heat, the activities were all well attended, and organizers were pleased with the weekend.
Friday night kicked off the events with chariot and chuck wagon races sponsored by the Eastern Professional Chariot and Chuck Wagon Association.
A Texas hold-em poker tournament was held on Friday evening with 38 players after the chariot and chuckwagon races. Dealers were Ralph Ager, Rod Serhan, Sheldon Luciw, James Bodanr, Jess and Tim Olson. The top five winners were Michael Wasylyniuk, Nathan Draper, Braeden Ager, Steven Geistlinger and Brian Watland.
There were 38 entries in the chariot race. The top five winners of the three-day total were, first to fifth were, Ryan Peterson, Colin Kilborn, Twyla Slamond, Curis Longman, and Brandee Braaten
There were 27 entries in the chuckwagon race. The top five winners of the three-day total were. first to fifth were, Casey Peterson, Clayton Hawreliuk, Riley Braaten, Cody Leech, and Shayne Salmond.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, children had the opportunity to play on inflatable bouncing castles and the playground equipment provided some extra entertainment. Children also had the opportunity to have their faces painted, participate in a variety of games, and dig in the sand for loonies. Loiselle Creek Petting Zoo from Hudson Bay were in attendance on both days, as well as Gerald Ignatiuk of Preeceville who offered barrel rides for all children.
Also on Saturday there were four teams entered in the co-ed slo-pitch ball tournament. Team Local Legends won the tournament and the three other teams were Hudson Bay, Canora, and Little Bone Bombs.
The mini trade show was held on Saturday, as well as a beach volleyball fun tournament featuring four teams, with Ball Busters winning the tournament. The three other teams were Jean-Luc, Kool Aid Jammers and North Prairie Proud.
A car show and shine featured 15 entries, Tyson Arneson with a 1978 F100; Larry Buchinski with a 1995 GS Suburban; Mike Holowachuk, 1934 Ford Coupe; Cindy Holowachuk, 1999 Firebird; Reese Gulka, 1978 Corvette; Gene Kyowski with a 1958 Edsel; Jim Holowachuk with a 1972 Cada; Mike Andrusko with a 1980 Corvette; Chase Zurowski with a 2002 Mustang: Dave Wasygyn, 1975 Monza; Dave Kobecka, 1967 Merc F100; Iona Hleboff, 1981 Camero; Darian Walker, 1979 Ford; Hunter Walker, 979 Silverado; and Darren Descalchuk, 2006 Night Train.
Nitelife Entertainment supplied the music for the open-air dance, and a fireworks show concluded the evening.
Sunday morning was kicked off with a pancake breakfast, followed by cowboy service at the sportsgrounds.
The Preeceville Nursery School sponsored bingo games under the big top during the two days.
A gymkhana, sponsored by the Etomamie Valley Riders Club, was held on Saturday and Sunday.
A concession, beer gardens, and ice cream treats were available on both days. There were plane rides available from Leading Edge Aviation from Yorkton and a magician, Magic Jay, entertained the children on both days.
The Preeceville Volunteer Fire Department was responsible for keeping the track watered for dust control, and firemen sold 50/50 tickets. KevRhon Transport supplied a water tanker for watering the track.
Pink Ladies food truck featured sweet treats and food.
