CANORA – Whether your interest is good food, petting cute animals, looking for treasures from street vendors or at garage sales, enjoying good music, or just hanging out with long-time friends and meeting new ones, Canora in Bloom has plenty to offer coming up from Aug. 7-15, culminating with the Canora Street Festival.
“It’s a tradition of weeklong community events for the whole family,” said Brandi Zavislak, community development officer. “It draws in thousands of people to Canora during the Street Festival. It’s the biggest tourism event of the year, great for our local businesses.”
Anyone looking for forgotten treasures is encouraged to take in the community garage sale from Aug. 7 to 9. Those looking to challenge their archery skills, or just take a walk and enjoy the scenic sights along the course, is encouraged to check out the Assiniboine River Archery Club 3D Shoot on Aug. 8 and 9. Registration opens at 8 a.m. both days for archers.
There’s nothing quite like a summer parade, and the Canora in Bloom parade is set to roll through Canora on Aug. 8. Also on Saturday, lunch will be served at the Off the Rails Canteen & Putting Green Challenge at the Canora Golf Club.
On Sunday everyone can continue searching for treasures during the final day of the community garage sale.
Aug. 10 brings a popular and mouth-watering Canora tradition, the Unite Church Perogy Lunch. Tuesday will be for golfers to enjoy the Family Fun Night at the Canora Golf Club. Please call 306-563-4104 to register.
If you’re looking for a good hamburger, the Canora-Pelly NDP will be hosting a hamburger barbecue 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at the CN Station. Plus, it’s Ladies Night at the Golf Course, please pre- register.
On Thursday, the focus will be on birds of prey and what we can do to help the ones in trouble. The day will feature a fundraiser for Majestic Raptor Rehab, including perogies, sausage, crafts, and mini-market. Call Mary at 306-562-7252 to register. The day concludes with Men’s Night at the Canora Golf Club, please pre-register.
Friday, Aug. 14 will be all about good food, kicking off with the Legion Lunch featuring pulled pork on a bun, coleslaw, beans and dessert. Happy Hour with Off the Rails Canteen will be on at the Canora Golf Club.
The week of festivities concludes with the much-anticipated Canora Street Festival on Aug. 15. The big day kicks off with the Canora Fire Department Pancake Breakfast. When you get hungry later in the day, Rainbow Hall be hosting a day-long concession where they will be serving perogies, sausage and cabbage rolls.
A key feature of the Street Festival is the Canora Cruisers Car Club Annual Show ’N‘ Shine, which will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Whether you’re young or just young at heart and still love spending time with cute animals, the Good Spirit Petting Zoo will no doubt be a popular attraction.
A wide variety of street vendors will have food and other treasures available throughout the Street Festival, including the Pink Ladies Food Truck.
All graduates of Canora Composite School are encouraged to attend the weeklong festivities and create a special homecoming event. They are asked to register beforehand at 306-563-5574.
Live music will be happening throughout the day featuring performers from Canora and the surrounding area including The Zayshleys, Troy MacNaughton and Melissa Spelchen.
