YORKTON — Producers, industry representatives and community members gathered on July 28 for the 2026 East Central Research Foundation (ECRF)/Suncrest College Field Day, where they explored the latest applied agricultural research taking place at the ECRF Research Farm south of Yorkton.
More than 70 participated in the annual event, which featured a guided tour of active crop trials, soil health initiatives and field-scale research designed to provide practical solutions for Saskatchewan producers. Participants also had the opportunity to connect with researchers and industry experts while learning about emerging practices and innovations in agriculture.
The Field Day highlighted the strong partnership between Suncrest College and the East Central Research Foundation, demonstrating how applied research helps address real-world agricultural challenges while supporting innovation, sustainability, and economic growth across the region.
"For me, applied research is only worth doing if it actually helps producers on the ground. That's why I value this tour every year. It gives us a chance to walk the plots with producers, industry, and anyone curious about agriculture, talk through what we're seeing, and share what we're learning in a way people can actually use,” said Praveen Sapkota, Applied Research Coordinator at Suncrest College.
“Those conversations with our agronomists and researchers are where the real value happens. When we share results like this, it turns into decisions that help producers grow better crops and build a stronger, more sustainable agriculture sector here in Saskatchewan."
The event showcased ongoing research projects focused on crop performance, soil health, and agronomic practices that can help producers make informed decisions and improve productivity. By bringing together researchers, industry professionals, and producers, the Field Day created valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge and strengthen partnerships within Saskatchewan's agriculture sector.
