Week one of the harvest edition of GX94 Supper in the Field took us to the Andy and Jennifer Melnychenko farm near Grandview, Manitoba, Wednesday night.
Andy started farming in 2009, and has now taken over the farm from his dad.
He says they crop about 3000 acres, growing canola, wheat, and a little bit of soybeans.
Jennifer says she used to work in the corporate agriculture world, but she joined the farm full-time, three years ago.
The couple has three boys, ages 10, 7, and 2.
Andy notes they have a hired man this year, a young man from France.
He says they've been getting international summer students for about five years now.
Andy says seeding went well for them this spring, but they had between five and ten inches of rain at the end of June, which caused some overland flooding.
He desiccated some wheat on Wednesday, and he believes he's going to have an average crop this year.
But, he thinks his canola suffered some heat blast this summer.
Andy believes they will be harvesting by the middle of next week.
